Meet The Team Behind Flux Job
A new work by Lucy Guerin Inc.
Our North Melbourne neighbours, and leading Australian dance company, Lucy Guerin Inc are back in the building and although you may be familiar with their work, we wanted to introduce you properly to the team behind Flux Job.
The Creative Team
Lucy Guerin
Choreographer
No stranger to Arts House, Lucy Guerin is a Melbourne-based choreographer and Artistic Director of Lucy Guerin Inc, the contemporary dance company she founded in 2002. LGI is based at its own venue, WXYZ Studios in North Melbourne and is dedicated to challenging and extending the art of contemporary dance.
Lucy has toured her work extensively in Europe, Asia and North America and to most of Australia’s major festivals and venues. She has been commissioned by Chunky Move, Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project (USA), Lyon Opera Ballet (France) and Rambert (UK) among many others. Lucy has received many awards throughout her career, including the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award, the Australia Council Award for Dance and in 2020 was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for her services to contemporary dance.
Adena Jacobs
Dramaturg
Adena Jacobs is a theatre director and the Artistic Director of independent company Fraught Outfit. Her distinct body of work incorporates queer and feminist renderings of ancient texts, hallucinatory landscapes and rich sound scores, created in collaboration with her creative team and performers.
Adena’s ‘Innocence Trilogy,’ including THE BACCHAE (Melbourne International Arts Festival 2015, Dark MOFO 2016), won six Green Room Awards, including Best Direction. Adena was Resident Director at Belvoir (2014-2015), and Female Director in Residence at Malthouse Theatre (2012). In 2018 she was awarded the George Fairfax Memorial Award.
Paul Lim
Lighting Designer
Paul Lim is a Melbourne-based lighting designer with a broad range of experience in theatrical and event production. His multifaceted knowledge has been used to provide integrated solutions for theatre, festivals and events around the world.
Andrew Treloar
Costume Designer
Andrew Treloar is an artist working between contemporary art, dance and fashion design through multiple practices and collaborations. His design work has shown across many venues and festivals throughout Australia including the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
Jethro Woodward
Composer & Sound Designer
Jethro Woodward is a Melbourne-based composer, musical director, arranger, musician and sound designer recognised for his expansive and highly layered film, theatre and dance scores. A multi-Green Room Award winner and Helpmann nominee, he has worked with some of Australia’s leading major and independent companies.
The Dancers
Tra Mi Dinh
Tra Mi Dinh is a dance artist based across Sydney and Melbourne. She has worked with artists including Lucy Guerin, Victoria Chiu, Lee Serle, Michelle Heaven, Isabelle Beauvard and Monica Bill Barnes & Company in works presented at Dance Massive, AsiaTopa, MEL&NYC, Melbourne Fringe Festival, MPavillion and Melbourne International Arts Festival. Her performance in Make Your Own World (2019) by Lucy Guerin Inc was nominated for a Green Room Award.
Amber McCartney
Amber McCartney is a Melbourne-based dancer. She has performed for companies including Chunky Move, Lucy Guerin Inc, Antony Hamilton Projects, Tasdance, and DanceNorth as well as choreographers Prue Lang, James Batchelor, Adam Wheeler and Gideon Obarzanek. She has created works for Transit Dance, Yellow Wheel, and Lucy Guerin Inc. In 2020 Amber was a recipient of Solitude 1, Chunky Move’s home-based residency program.
Lilian Steiner
Lilian Steiner is a dancer and choreographer whose practice champions the deep intelligence of the body and its unique ability to reveal and comment on the complexities of contemporary humanity. Lilian has worked and toured extensively with Lucy Guerin Inc. Lilian received the Green Room Award for Best Female Dancer in both 2017 and 2018, as well as the Helpmann Award in 2017.
Geoffrey Watson
Geoffrey Watson is a Melbourne-based artist whose work is rooted in choreography but has branches in wearable design, text, lighting, sculpture and photography. As a performer, Geoffrey has worked with companies and artists including BalletLab, Nana Biluš-Abaffy, Lucy Guerin Inc, Lee Serle, Alisdair Macindoe, and Gekidan Kaitaisha.
