Introducing our Artistic Director
We are thrilled to welcome Emily Sexton to Arts House.
Arts House is pleased to announce the appointment of Emily Sexton as the new Artistic Director.
Emily Sexton is a cross-disciplinary curator from Melbourne, and a Sidney Myer Creative Fellow (2014-15). She has held multiple significant creative roles in the city, including Artistic Director of Next Wave (2010-14), Creative Producer of Melbourne Fringe (2008-10), and most recently Head of Programming for the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas (2014-17). In 2018 she is a participant in the Australia Council’s Arts Leaders Program.
Emily has been a proud Board Member for Arena Theatre Company, Snuff Puppets and Theatre Network Victoria, and is also alumnus of the Australia Council’s Emerging Leaders Program (2011). She is a regular peer assessor for the Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, and other philanthropic trusts and foundations. Emily holds a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications, English) from the University of Sydney (2005). She’s a regular host and facilitator for arts organisations and writers festivals across Australia, and often co-hosts radio for ABC Melbourne.
Emily explains, “I adore Arts House, and its killer combination of daring thought, creative adventure and passion for independent art. I can’t wait to collaborate and build upon incredible work towards the next phase of Arts House’s role as Melbourne’s centre for contemporary and experimental performance.”
Emily will begin with Arts House in mid June and her first curated program will be Season 1, 2019.
We are thrilled to have Emily on our team and are looking forward to the vision and curation she will bring to Arts House.
