Learn how to create accessible pathways for audiences in your own work with a disabled led company paving the way.

Dan Daw Creative Projects is a disabled led company. They embed access into everything they do, from their office work to rehearsal room to activity that has audiences. The company listens to and values peers and communities and celebrates their individuality. They work with practices that empower everyone to participate whoever wishes to.

Dan Daw Creative Projects run a pioneering offer alongside their public performances and activity called Pre-Show Access. This is where the company have delved into their work to think about how they can make it as accessible as possible for the most amount of people.

Held over two sessions, this workshop is part talk and part practical activities where you can apply the company’s theoretical knowledge of creating accessible pathways for audiences, into your own work.

The workshop will cover:

  • The social model of Disability – exploring why we use the social model of disability in our work and why that means we are able to make the world a more accessible place for everyone
  • Creating your own access rider – what do you need to make your best work?
  • Creating the best environment for you and your team – ‘User Manual For Me’ exercise
  • Relaxed Performances and Sensory Adapted Performances – what are they and how do you do make sure your audience knows what it means?
  • Trigger Menus – why do we need them? How do you make them for your own work?
  • Working with d/Deaf and Disabled consultants – ‘why the concept of nothing about us without us’ is important.

By the end of the workshop, you will have an idea how to embed all the above into your own work and we will end with a Q&A session.
