Disabled and Sexy is Alter State’s Deaf and Disability-led closing party set to heat up the basement of Arts House.
With a line-up of steamy performances, DJs and a very sexy dress-up competition, you’re invited to come dressed in your hottest partygoer threads for this fun-fuelled Alter State finale event.
Co-hosted by Australia’s Deaf Drag Queen Darling Mademoiselle Coco, alongside Disabled and Sexy curator and Alter State’s very own Creative Lead, Jodee Mundy, Disabled and Sexy is a night of fun, kinky and seductive acts.
Be swept up and away by outrageously hilarious comedian Thomas Banks, fierce and proud Wiradjuri/Gamilaroi trans performer Kitty Obsidian, Goddess and futurist pop musician Naavikaran, our sideshow star Sarah Birdgirl and Deaf Queer Queens Sam Martin and Nathan Borg.
Get ready to dance to party-starter DJs KIN and Aquenta, and if you’re in the mood to dress-up to theme, enter the hot and spicy competition our MCs will be serving up on the night.
The Arts House foyer and chill out space will be taken over by a range of vibrant quilts, interactive and soft sculptural works Amy Claire Mills, and upstairs the Terrace and Studio will be open spaces to chill out and catch your breath.
This is a party for everyone, with an invitation for allies to come and experience the brilliance of the Deaf and Disabled community at the heart of Naarm.
Come down early for a pre-party experience with Kath Duncan’s Specials! Development Showing and Melinda Smith’s Conduit Bodies.
Got your ticket and wondering what to wear?
For a little bit of inspo, MCs Mademoiselle Coco and Jodee Mundy have come up with four dress-up categories that might inspire your party outfits. Maybe you’re feeling a little tactile, or want to put your most sassiest outfit on. Or perhaps you’d rather blend into the crowd.
Categories are:
Best textured – you’re the most tactile person in the room, you’re irresistible to touch
Armour against ableism – you’re a hero of community, nothing’s going to get you down
Sexy Disabled Pride – you’re the epitome of sass and so hot you’ve got your own #hashtag
Ally –you know it’s not about you, but you always show up
We will be hosting a competition for best dressed on the night – no pre-registration is required.
Competition starts at 10pm and winners take home an original print by Luke Duncan King.
