A note on the season
Our Season 2 program is rich with stories and perspectives both profound and resonant. Curated with justice at its heart, the season explores what it means to create in fraught times, what it means for artists to speak directly to their communities, what it means to see the world with humanity.
We are honoured to begin with a very special evening of poetry, empowerment and connection by Muslim Agenda, featuring Plestia Alaqad with an accompanying window commission by Amani Haydar. We then invite you to trace the infinite lines that connect the personal to the universal in a new work by Ahmarnya Price and a host of esteemed collaborators.
Throughout September, the third edition of BLEED will activate both physical and digital spaces; the former transformed into love shrines and sites safe from heteronormativity, the latter into a repository for love letters and a self-determined queer space. Alongside our partners CAC (Sydney) and PICA (Perth), we look forward to welcoming you to the IRL and URL expressions of this unique festival.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Arts Centre Melbourne – Alter State and Melbourne Fringe in October to bring two new experimental commissions to life, details of which will be announced in July. Until then, I can say both feature revolutionary tech and probe the boundaries of form in ways that promise to be exhilarating and enlightening. Also in October, we present an in development showing of a furious and funny new play by Kath Duncan, which examines timely issues in timeless fashion.
To close the year are three works from genre-bending storytellers and performance makers that explore the intersections of culture and crises. There is an investigation into our hyperconnected disconnection, a quiz that might get you deported and a celebrated celebration of resilience and community.
Each of the artists in Season 2 invites us on a journey of learning, experimentation and risk-taking. We hope you’ll take up their offers with open minds and warm hearts and we look forward to seeing you within and across our spaces very soon.
