A memoir and exploration of being under four foot in a six foot world shared through movement, film and installation.
The disabled body has historically been defined by the gaze of others. From the medical gaze to the stranger’s stare, perceptions of bodies with disabilities raise issues of autonomy and consent.
Leisa Prowd’s I Am (Not) This Body is a cross-disciplinary exploration of her relationship with her own body in a world not made for it, and an invitation to experience life as she does.
Through film, spoken word, dance, projection and sculptures, Leisa finds alternative ways to reclaim body autonomy and represent difference.
I Am (Not) This Body is a rich and engaging exploration into compelling territory.

About the Artists
Pimpisa Tinpalit is a Thai-born Australian artist working within mental and physical themes of captivity and freedom. Pimpisa challenges the notions of free will and determinism through her figurative artworks with a focus on sculpture and installation. She explores and answers questions relating to a person's free will, or at times challenges what it is to have free will through the use of antonyms to suggest otherwise. Originally from Thailand, Pimpisa has a Master's Degree in Fine Art from Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, and lectured for four years in Fine Art. With over eighteen years as a professional artist, Pimpisa has exhibited worldwide including in Thailand, Japan, Singapore, USA, Korea, Hong Kong and Australia with her work held in public and private collections. Arriving in Melbourne in 2009, Pimpisa has embedded herself into the Australian art scene with successful and widely acclaimed shows. In 2016 she founded BlackCat Gallery, Collingwood, where she is the current Director and curator.
Richard Vabre is a freelance lighting designer who has lit productions for MTC, STC, Malthouse Theatre, Belvoir Street, Black Swan State Theatre Company, Back To Back Theatre, Victorian Opera, Circus Oz, Windmill Theatre, Arena Theatre Company, NICA, The Darwin Festival, Stuck Pig’s Squealing, Chambermade, Rawcus, Red Stitch, Polyglot, Melbourne Worker’s Theatre, Aphids and many many productions at La Mama. Richard has won 5 Green Room Awards including the Association’s John Truscott Prize for Excellence in Design (2004). He has also been nominated for 10 other Green Room Awards.
Dan West is a Melbourne-based instrumentalist, music producer and sound designer dedicated to the composition, performance and audio documentation of original music. Working both on stage and in his sound laboratory, Dan collaborates with a variety of musicians and other cross-disciplinary artists to create new work to humanise the digital divide, fusing sounds made by both people and machines. Whether creating soundtracks for video and performance artist Eugenia Lim, music and sound design for Yumi Umiumare or playing guitar with Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Dan likes to investigate ideas of social inclusion through art making. His practice utilises skills developed in the creation of tempo-ral reactive work with a range of artists that focuses on the promotion of creative social connectivity and the democratisation of culture.
Eloise Kent is a multidisciplinary designer/maker who designs sets for theatre, immersive performance, circus, live art installations, brand activations, exhibitions and events. She has a keen interest in creating spaces that respond to and interact with the site, the performer and the spectator. Eloise holds a Master of Performance Design from the Victorian College of the Arts. She has interned with the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin, took part in the Besen Family Artist Program at the Malthouse Theatre, and was a contracted artist for White Night Melbourne. She recently received the APDG award for Emerging Designer for a Live Performance with her collaborator Angelica Rush.
