In the Time of Refuge Collection
A timely collection of writings and reflections on art, disaster and communities.
Refuge Publication Project was commissioned by City of Melbourne through Arts House in partnership with the Research Unit of Public Cultures, Melbourne University with the generous support of Emergency Management Victoria.
In the Time of Refuge offers readers an expanded understanding of this six-year project led by Arts House in partnership with Emergency Management Victoria, State Emergency Services, Australian Red Cross and the University of Melbourne. Featuring contributions from artists, Elders, producers, collaborators and witnesses who held, nurtured and steered Refuge from 2016-2021.
“When the emergency is extended deeper into our way of life, we are forced to turn to new habits and ways of relating to each other. If we can listen to the stories in this short book, and spawn multiple other scenarios, then there is a hope that a preparedness is developed, not just in the infrastructure but also in the imagination, before the next wave.” – Nikos Papastergiadis
