Arts X Science Residency EOIs are currently closed. 

We acknowledge that the inaugural residency was not designed in a self-determined manner. Arts House and Science Gallery Melbourne take responsibility for this oversight and are currently reviewing the program.

Arts House commits to a duty of care for the two artists who have been selected through this year’s callout. We are working with them to ensure their residency can be a generative experience with culturally safe measures negotiated directly with the artists. The engagement with Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter remains optional.

Overview

Arts House is excited to continue our partnership with Science Gallery Melbourne for an interdisciplinary research and creative development residency. 

This is an opportunity for a First Nations artist(s) to work across Arts House and Science Gallery Melbourne with the optional component of working with the  Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter at The University of Melbourne. 

Over six weeks, selected artists will be supported in the residency to develop their own research directions. The residency will run for two weeks at Arts House and up to four weeks at Science Gallery, including opportunities to meet with leading academics and scientists of the University of Melbourne.

Science Gallery Melbourne is part of the acclaimed Global Science Gallery Network and is embedded in the University of Melbourne. Science Gallery explores the collision of art and science and plays a vital role in shifting our understanding of science, art and innovation.

Support

Arts X Science Residency is an interdisciplinary research and creative development program for an Australian-based First Nations artist, collective or small company. 

• The selected project will receive $20,000 project fee contribution, plus superannuation and oncosts.
• The selected project has access to 2 weeks supported venue-based residency at Arts House and up to 4 weeks with Science Gallery Melbourne.
• The residency takes place between July 2022 – June 2023. 
• Arts House and Science Gallery Melbourne have financial resources available to ensure that an artists’ access and inclusion needs are met, if required to participate in the program.
• In addition to access support, both organisations are able to provide culturally appropriate mentor/ support person to work with the artist(s) if required.
