Lawrence Leung (How to… Survive with Lies and Trickery)
How can you survive the apocalypse if you’re not the fastest or strongest? The answer is to out-smart everyone with your elaborate lies and cunning tricks. Learn techniques of the carnival trickster, the conjuror and the con artist to fleece the gullible, tell better lies and manipulate suckers into believing in your superpowers. Comedian and cheeky scoundrel, Lawrence Leung will demonstrate the sneaky skills of fake psychics, cult leaders, fortune-tellers and confidence artists with practical methods on how to use psychological mind games, trickery and lies for survival … and if you’re lucky, convince people you are a god.
And then you’ll get some top tips from …
Madeleine Dore (How to… Embrace a Creative Slump)
Sometimes creating can feel like you’re pulling teeth. Sometimes we don’t know how to balance what we have to do, with what we want to do. Sometimes we’re tempted to throw in our creative practice entirely. Drawing from interviews with esteemed creatives, life experiments, and her own intimate experience with procrastination and dull days, Madeleine Dore of Extraordinary Routines will share tips for surviving creative lulls, burnout, and the occasional feeling of inertia in everyday life.
Selena de Carvalho (How to… Free Birth)
Selena de Carvalho is in a shack; also know as donga. She’s wrapped in a hot-pink mosquito net, on a nineties, twin seater office chair. She is in the dry tropical scrub, 80 kilometres out of Darwin, and our donga has waist high rock walls, a tin roof, 240v power and bore water, it’s not transportable, but feels temporary. A bit like living in a luxury post-modern cave. I’m trying to breathe, sitting still, roving through the surrounding environment with my mind.
Daniel Newell (How to… (D)construct Identity with Drag & (D)androgny)
Dance, Drag, Colour, Shade, Openness, Queerness and Love, DANDROGYNY is a mirror to the ways in which we choose, or are forced, to (D)construct identity. D-stabilising normative and toxic masculinity, DANDROGYNY knows humanity and gender are as fluid as the fluids from which we all came. So you want a drag show… yeah? Here ‘tis! DANDROGYNY invites you into an exploration of your identity, ideology and performativity. Come armed with your favourite tool from the shed and get ready to high kick, think, smash the patriarchy and roll around in a tonne of glitter. Controlled Creative Chaos anyone?
